Ticket Changes from 16th December 2024

  • Tango Returns - Will be withdrawn, but will soon be replaced by a new 'Duo' ticket.
  • Point to Point Tickets - All point to point tickets are being withdrawn, with the exception of the Day Returns.

High Peak Fares Q&A

Q: Why are the fares changing?

A: We introduced several new tickets at the start of November 2024. This means that some of the
tickets we’ve traditionally sold are no longer required. The ticket range is also quite complicated, so
we are trying to make it easier to understand.

Q: Which tickets are changing?

A: We are withdrawing all ‘point to point’ tickets with the exception of day returns. We are also
withdrawing discounts for Travel Club and Mango card holders as use of these schemes is very low.
The ‘Airport Week’ ticket is being withdrawn and passengers can instead buy a Peak Network or Metro
weekly ticket. Period returns are also being withdrawn.

Q: The new tickets are cheaper than the old ones – why is this?

A: The new tickets introduced in November 2024 are currently being subsidised by Derbyshire County
Council through their Bus Service Improvement Plan funding.

Q: Why are the ‘point to point’ tickets being withdrawn?

A: We have simplified the ticket offering by creating four tiers of tickets: Buxton zone, Macclesfield
zone, North Derbyshire zone, and Peak Network (all zones). This allows passengers to make unlimited
journeys in the area they choose at a fixed price, rather than just between two points. It also means
that we can increase security by having QR codes on tickets, which is not possible with point to point
tickets as these need to be manually checked by the driver.

Q: The Tango ticket has gone but there is no replacement. Why is this?

A: Tango tickets are soon to be replaced by new ‘Duo’ tickets which allow two adults to travel
together. These will be for a fixed price depending on the zone that is being travelled in, rather than
different prices for point to point tickets. The subsidised fares scheme means that two separate day
tickets would currently be cheaper than a Duo ticket so we will introduce these when the fares next
change.

High Peak Buses Announces Discounted Tickets in Partnership with Derbyshire County Council

High Peak Buses, in collaboration with Derbyshire County Council and utilising Bus Service Improvement funding from the Department for Transport (DfT), is excited to announce the introduction of discounted Daily, Weekly, and Monthly tickets starting 4th November 2024*.

This initiative includes the creation of two new fare zones aimed at providing passengers with even greater value for money. The Buxton Town Zone will extend from Harpur Hill to Fairfield, while the North Derbyshire Zone will cover the High Peak Buses routes north of Buxton.

David Brookes, Managing Director of High Peak Buses, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to offer these tickets at such reduced prices. We hope this will encourage people to leave their cars at home and use the bus for both work and leisure travel. The network-wide weekly ticket is being reduced from £33 to £18, for example, which is excellent value for a week’s travel over such a wide area”.

David also highlighted the new zone-specific weekly tickets: “Weekly tickets for the Buxton Zone and North Derbyshire Zone will be priced at just £12 for a week’s travel and daily and monthly tickets will also be significantly reduced in price under the scheme, which will run until the end of March next year”.

Councillor Charlotte Cupit, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Assets and Transport, commented: “The Council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan is working to improve bus travel across Derbyshire, so we’re delighted to be able to partner with High Peak to provide discounted travel for their bus service users. We hope this will encourage people to consider the bus as a travel option, as well as help regular bus users to continue to enjoy savings on their travel. We’re also working on ticketing promotions with other bus operators across Derbyshire, to bring savings to as many bus users as we can.”
